For subjects of the impervious project, what doesn’t kill them actually does make them stronger.
Children purchased in their youth are involuntary subjects of a dragonblood transfusion, which gave them unexpected results where they developed adaptive imperviousness. They’d be unstoppable.
Ven Yashke is a boy genius who’s about to attend Harvard Medical when a mysterious woman arrives at his home, offering to share information regarding the sudden death of his parents. He suspects they were murdered, but nobody believes him except for her.
But there’s a kicker.
He must help her take down the facility running these illegal dragonblood tests, but the facility is through a portal to a whole different world, one that he’s been to before without even knowing.
He wonders what lengths he would go to in order to get the answers he seeks.
Review:
Wow. I wasn’t expecting to like this book as much as I did, but I mean, it was amazing!
Brady’s writing is easy to follow and the story is exciting with the perfect amount of action, suspense, and romance. The story was truly unique and such a fun read, the ending especially had me on the edge of my seat!
I loved the main characters, they were so fun to read about. I loved everything about their relationship. They were witty, funny, and realistic, and kept me wanting to read more.
A perfect fantasy book for teens with portals, action, super-humans, dragonblood technology, swords, fun characters, and subtle, clean romance. You won’t be disappointed if you pick up this book. Trust me!
Summary:
Ven, fresh out of high school and about to attend college, is thrown into a whole new world after his parents die. He suspects it was a murder but he doesn’t have the evidence to prove it. To get the answers he’s looking for he agrees to go to this new world and stop inhumane experiments being done on teens. They know nothing of the world except what they’ve seen in the facility where they grew up, they didn’t have a choice about being subject to the transfusion that made them virtually indestructible.
Undercover as a doctor, Ven gains the trust of one of the subjects, his patient, and promises her that he will set her free, something she could only imagine to be a reality. After one of the subjects escapes, Ven and his patient are assigned the task of finding the subject and stopping him from killing innocent people.
Due to him being indestructible, they don’t have many options when it comes to stopping him, they’re only option is to steal a dragonsbane sword, the only thing that can stop him. Once their task is complete, Ven will finally be able to know the truth about his parents. Will it all be worth it?

Content
Beliefs/Other Content:
There are some slightly darker and heavier themes, including the kids being experimented on against their will, killing, blood, and Ven’s parents being murdered in a car accident. But there is also hope, Ven is an optimist, he talks about having affirming thoughts, and that empathy is a good thing. I believe it is age-appropriate, I recommend ages 13+.
Violence:
There is violence and action but it is not gory or inappropriate. I found that it had just the right amount of action and excitement. This book is appropriate for teens and I have no problem with recommending this book to 13+.
Be aware that there are mentions of blood, death, and killing.
Romance:
This book had a very low and slow-burn romance. There is an almost kiss, and Ven tells Mia that he loves her. There isn’t anything inappropriate, it’s all very sweet, witty, and cute.
